What is a plate carrier?

A plate carrier is a tactical vest with pockets (plate pockets) for hard ceramic or steel plates. Unlike soft bulletproof vests, plate carriers provide rifle round protection but are heavier and more visible. They are primarily used by military, police special units (AKS, PET), and tactical teams.
