What is a Bulletproof Vest?

A bulletproof vest is a piece of personal protective equipment designed to absorb and/or deflect bullets fired from firearms and fragments from explosions. These vests are critical for the safety of police officers, military personnel, security guards, and civilians in potentially dangerous situations. Modern bulletproof vests combine multiple layers of high-performance materials that can effectively stop or reduce the impact of incoming projectiles while remaining flexible and comfortable enough for everyday use.

What is the NIJ Standard?

The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standard is the leading certification for body armor in the USA. It defines different protection levels based on the armor's ability to stop specific types of ammunition at certain velocities. For bulletproof vests, these levels are:

  • NIJ Level IIA: This standard is designed to stop 9mm and .40 S&W ammunition fired from short barrels.
  • NIJ Level II: This standard is higher and is designed to stop 9mm and .357 Magnum ammunition.
  • NIJ Level IIIA: This level is designed to provide protection against more powerful ammunition such as .357 SIG and .44 Magnum.
  • NIJ Level III: This standard is intended to protect against high-velocity ammunition such as 7.62mm FMJ, typically used in rifles.
  • NIJ Level IV: The highest standard, capable of stopping ammunition from rifles. Elite Armor vests are primarily designed to offer NIJ IIIA protection, which is ideal for most civilian and professional scenarios. With the addition of trauma plates, our vests can also achieve NIJ IV protection, providing an even greater level of safety.

Materials in Elite Armor Vests

Our bulletproof and stab-resistant vests use advanced materials to ensure maximum protection and comfort. Among these materials are EA-TEX and TWARON, two high-performance components that give our vests their unique protective properties.

EA-TEX: This is our proprietary material, designed to provide superior protection while being lightweight and flexible. Its advanced composition ensures effective absorption and dispersion of the force from incoming projectiles. EA-TEX is quite similar to similar technologies such as Gore-Tex. This membrane ensures maximum breathability, guaranteeing comfort for the end user and helping to protect the fibers in the implant.

TWARON: Is a para-aramid synthetic fiber known for its strength and durability. It is comparable to Kevlar and is widely used in the manufacture of bulletproof and stab-resistant vests. Its high-performance properties contribute to our vests' ability to withstand extreme impacts.
